1. Make A Checklist

You will have a number of post move tasks to take care of. Make a list and organize your time! You can use this one as a template and customize it to fit your needs.

2. Change The Locks

Schedule a locksmith to come and change all of the locks as soon as possible after your move is complete. If you have an alarm system, all codes should be changed as well.

3. Cable/Internet

Yes, cable and internet made it this high on the list. This is especially important if you have young children or teenagers. This can be scheduled ahead of time so the provider shows up for installation as soon after your delivery date as possible.

4. Unpack / Check For Damage

As you settle in to your new home, you may notice damage to furniture that you did not notice when you did your final walk-through with the movers. Report any damage as soon as possible to the moving company. Do the same thing as you unpack. If you packed the boxes yourself, you are not covered for any breakages. However, if the moving company packed your boxes, you should report any breakages as soon as possible.

5. Change Address & Utilities

You should have notified these services ahead of time, however it is good to follow up to ensure everything is being switched over in a timely fashion.

6. Register Children For School

Again, you may have arranged this ahead of time for a seamless transition but it is good to follow up post-move to make sure everything is in order and your children can start school the next school day and pick up where they left off.

7. Find New Professional Services

Doctors, dentists, banks etc.

8. Register & Insure Your Vehicle

If you have moved to a new province or country.

9. Meet Your Neighbors – Explore Your City

Once this list or your custom list has been completed, take the time to get out and meet your new neighbors and city!
