Check on-line for things of interest and then go for a drive or take public transport. You will be surprised at all of what is available to you at a reasonable cost or free.
Exploring nature is always a great way to surround yourself with the best of what your new location has to offer. From hikes, bike routes to walking on the beach, there are many ways to enjoy it. Pack a picnic lunch. Familiarize yourself with the surroundings and go prepared for the conditions.
Many countries have organizations that will help connect you to great ways to enjoy nature. In the United States, the Sierra Club is a fantastic resource for getting acquainted with all of what nature has to offer. The National Park Service is another fantastic resource. There are annual park passes for a minimal fee on offer that will allow you to enter any national park. The Sierra Club is also active in Canada. Also, Parks Canada provides an excellent resource of information for exploring what Canada has to offer.
If you are heading to the UK, there are many organizations that will help you explore historic places and nature. The National Trust and English Heritage are organizations that promote the education and exploration of historic places. They provide fantastic information on what is available.
Go out and explore. It gives you the opportunity to make the most of your experience.
