Managing Risk

July 2nd, 2012 5:30 pm by

The most important information to consider when moving is managing your risk.  Your professionals here at Highland will do their best to mitigate the risk involved in transporting your goods.  However, you will have to mitigate some risk yourself.  This includes addressing gaps in your insurance coverage.  You want to have a chat with your insurance agent before you move.  Further, while you are in transition, you will have to take care to monitor your things.

When you are in transition, chances are you will have a majority of the things that are important to you.  These may include computers, important documents, jewelry, keepsakes, photographs, and other valuable items.  Therefore, you will have to think about how you can ensure that your things are stored safely.  As tempting as it is, you do not want to leave your things in your car.  A car full of things can be an easy target.  Therefore, check to see if your accommodations offer you access to a safe.  This would be a better option to keep your things, especially your high-valued items and important documents safely.  If you are flying, you definitely want to keep your important documentation and fine jewelry with you.  You do not want to check these items.

Moving is stressful and your mind may have a thousand different thoughts on what needs to be done next.  Make sure that even though you may have a great deal on your mind that you do not become inadvertently complacent with your things.  The last thing you need in the middle of the move is having an important item stolen.
